Out with the Old in with the New (Pontoons)
A couple of really focused Work Parties have been completing the Installation of the 3rd and final replacement of the Yacht Pontoons. Thanks to everyone involved and to the patience of the last boats who have awaited this upgrade for what seems like ages.

Club House Extension
An update for those who haven't been to the club recently - the extension works are progressing to plan and it is hoped that the new improved facilities will be enjoed by all in the near future.

Phase 1 of the replacement of 50 metres of the pontoons was completed in 2020.
Phase 2 is the next 65 metres of the moorings. The pontoons will be purchased in summer 2021 and fitted during the winter of 2021/22 so as to minimise disruption of our sailing.
Covid 19 Risk Assessment June 2020
Key Points Moving Forward GCYC is committed to providing use of the club and its facilities as soon as possible. The club will comply with government instructions and follow guidelines as given by relevant authorities eg the RYA. In the event that it appears that the club is not able to be run in a low risk manner the committee will take the decision to close the club or limit access.
Members must abide by these procedures to avoid any additional risk to themselves or other members.
This plan is subject to change as the situation develops. Clubhouse facilities closed except for toilets one way system in place
Key principles
Members will adhere to social distancing rules.
Anyone with symptoms will stay at home.
Hand sanitizer will be placed inside Clubhouse
Opening and locking the gate Gloves should be worn when handling the gate and padlock or hands sanitised afterwards. Members must have own gloves or sanitizer.
Car parking The gate will be closed by every member entering/leaving the club to deter non members from entering.
When adjacent boats are leaving/returning to berths, 2nd crew to wait for 1st crew to complete rig/de-rig before moving into the area.
Changing facilities Changing rooms will not be used. Members to arrive/leave changed and ready to sail. Members can change in car park if social distancing can be maintained.
Opening/closing the club Whilst opening/closing the club members will wear protective gloves when using the key pads or sanitised hands afterwards. When handling the keys for the boat park, slipway and garage gloves will be worn or hands sanitised afterwards.
Safety launch and recovery Gloves will be worn when touching the Safety Boat both ashore and afloat. The boat should be launched and recovered by the same crew if possible. Individuals involved in the launching of the Safety Boat will, as far as practical, observe social distancing and if this is not possible wear face masks. If kept on the pontoon the safety boat will be left on end section. When retrieving the safety boat no other boats to be on the slipway. Individuals involved in the recovery of the Safety Boat will, as far as practical, observe social distancing. If this is not possible, face masks are to be worn. All surfaces that have been touched should be sanitised by the safety boat crew using the wash provided. CPR follows NHS guidelines eg only chest compressions. Surfaces touched will be disinfected.
Only members of the same isolation group may sail together.
Dock Procedures for entering and leaving the Royal Dock
These procedures are subject to change and should be reviewed by the skippers
All skippers should give the dock office a phone call and book a pen if possible up to 24 hours in advance
It may be possible to book out at shorter notice but it gives both parties time to schedule traffic and is best practise also check if other vessels have booked to leave. It will make life easier for us all if we can combine departures
Phone number is 01472 246233 giving the name of the vessel and the time you would like to leave
Prior to leaving your berth you should contact Royal Dock on VHF Channel 74 stating the vessel name and asking for clearance to leave your berth DO NOT LEAVE THE BERTH WITHOUT PERMISSION
Make sure you have two long lines ready to be passed to the lock keepers and also have your fenders positioned before you enter the lock,after you have cleared the cut listen out on Channel 74 for instructions from the lock regarding entering the lock
Whilst in the lock you should comply with all instructions from the lock keepers they are there to ensure your safety
if there are a lot of boats penning out the lock keeper will give instructions as to the order he wishes the boats to leave the lock
please listen and comply to his instructions
COMING BACK INTO THE ROYAL DOCK
When you wish to re-enter the dock call on VHF Channel 74 stating vessel name and approximately how long you will be before you are close to the entrance DO NOT ENTER THE BOWL UNTIL CLEARED TO DO SO as there may be traffic exiting
the lock keepers will advise you what they wish you do and you must comply with their instructions
you must wait for the lock gates to fully open before proceeding in either direction
